Johny.

Surfer, artist, friend.

Didn’t we all loved the old sorties of our dads? Did we forget the joy of a good story? I don’t think so. I would take the risk to say, that we all still enjoy good stories, and it is what we also expect when we meet an old friend and ask them about all the things that we missed.

I don’t want to try to write an essay about stories and our relationship with them. I just want to present you my friend Johny. An ocean lover, a storyteller, a joyful friend, a bad jokes maker, a warm and open heart, someone I found easy to trust and to have fun with.

On a way to the beach for a little surf session, Johny was telling us the story of an old broken Monastery, build to near to the ocean, where they underestimate the power of the ocean. They moved up to the mountain, leaving us, the perfect playground. On the way back, he told me the story of a surfboard, a rescue board, the board with whom he caught his fastest wave. Surfed by so many, after so many years of fun and good services, it found a new place, in a surf house in Santa Cruz.

Driving by the old broken castle, we both realised that it could be the perfect place to combine the two stories. using the bit of light the morning brought, we ran down the hill, looking for the storie we could tell together.

We had a lot of fun, it felt easy, like we both knew the story we wanted to tell and the light helping us gently.

An old broke Castle, a lot of work, destroyed by the power of the waves, an old broken surfboard, tired of carrying souls around. A place for souls to rest, a way for people to enjoy. So different and so near. two histories, two useful tools, one men to bring them together. A piece a history, a place to grow, a friend to learn, time to be thankful for the history behind and the one ahead.

And I hope you will enjoy the pictures as much as the story behind it!

If you love the ocean like Johny, I and so many others do, maybe you should have a look at Johny’s art. To bring some joy, peace and rest in your home. I rarely felt so big and small, quiet, joyful and touched than looking at the waves this man can create.
